Read the book beforeyou buy the dog. There's a volume of good information here. It will guide you from deciding which breed is right for your family to how to potty train.
You can browse back through those chapters periodically as your puppy grows. The information is broken down into sections, based on age, which I found very helpful. Overall, very helpful book that I will keep within reach for a while. I read this book within a few days and it provided me with SO much information. At first I was overwhelmed, but afterward I felt informed and confident to raise a well-behaved pet. It also addressed different behaviors and personalities (both in the pup and person) and how training should differ.
Good book to have with you and puppy to refer to on a daily basis. Good pictures on training techniques.
It is full of very good, practical information even for someone who has trained several dogs. In contrast to another dog training CD I bought this one gets high marks. I would recommend it to any puppy owner.
